Location: Calgary, AB
Schedule: Monday–Friday (8 hours/day)
Reporting to: Procurement & Supply Chain Manager
Role Summary
The Buyer is responsible for executing end-to-end procurement and materials management activities to ensure the timely availability of raw materials and services at optimal cost, quality, and compliance. This role supports manufacturing and operations by managing purchasing transactions, supplier relationships, and material flow while maintaining system accuracy and resolving supply, quality, and invoicing issues.
Key Responsibilities
Procurement & Purchasing
  • Create, issue, and manage Purchase Orders (POs) within ERP systems (Fishbowl; transition to Microsoft Dynamics planned).
  • Lead Requests for Quotation (RFQs), analyze supplier proposals, and structure commercial agreements.
  • Negotiate pricing, lead times, and PO-level terms & conditions where formal contracts are not in place.
  • Maintain PO accuracy, execute change orders, and manage approvals.
  • Ensure supplier acknowledgement, track commitments, and proactively mitigate delivery risks.
Supplier & Contract Management
  • Build and maintain strong supplier relationships to support operational needs.
  • Monitor supplier performance (on-time delivery, quality, responsiveness).
  • Manage terms, conditions, liabilities, and contractual obligations.
  • Support supplier onboarding, documentation, and performance reviews.
  • Escalate and resolve supply issues, delays, and quality concerns.
Materials & Manufacturing Support
  • Procure raw materials and ensure availability for production and R&D.
  • Validate demand requirements and prevent duplicate purchasing.
  • Support consumables procurement and replenishment.
  • Collaborate with operations on production requirements and supply planning.
  • Coordinate outside processing, subcontracting, and third-party supplier activities.

Systems & Data Management
  • Maintain accurate ERP data, including item masters, BOMs, and cost information.
  • Work with large data sets to analyze purchasing trends and optimize sourcing decisions.
  • Ensure system integrity and audit-ready procurement documentation.
Financial & Procure-to-Pay
  • Review supplier invoices and perform 3-way matching (PO, receipt, invoice).
  • Resolve discrepancies with Accounts Payable and suppliers.
  • Support cost validation and financial accuracy within procurement processes.
Quality & Compliance
  • Support resolution of non-conforming materials (NCRs), returns, and rework activities.
  • Ensure compliance with specifications, technical drawings, and quality requirements.
  • Maintain traceability and proper documentation for procurement activities.
Continuous Improvement
  • Track procurement KPIs such as on-time delivery, lead times, and cost savings.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline procurement processes and improve supplier performance.
  • Contribute to ongoing improvements in systems, workflows, and reporting.
Qualifications & Experience
  • 5+ years of experience in procurement, purchasing, or supply chain roles.
  • Experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment (oil & gas background preferred).
  • Strong experience with raw material purchasing and supplier management.
  • Proven experience managing RFQs, contracts, and commercial terms.
  • Familiarity with ERP systems (Fishbowl and/or Microsoft Dynamics preferred).
