Role Summary:-
The Electrical Submersible Pump (ESP) Applications Engineer is responsible for the design, optimization, execution support, and performance improvement of ESP systems to maximize oil and water production while ensuring reliability, operational efficiency, and customer satisfaction. The role combines production engineering, artificial lift system design, field support, and commercial awareness to deliver technically and economically optimized ESP solutions throughout the well lifecycle. Essential Responsibilities:-
ESP System Design & Engineering
- Design ESP completions based on reservoir conditions, well profile, fluid properties, production targets, and operating constraints.
- Perform pump sizing, motor selection, cable sizing, gas handling evaluation, and system optimization using ESP design software.
- Conduct nodal analysis, IPR/VLP modeling, and production forecasting to ensure optimal equipment selection.
- Evaluate offset well performance and historical data to identify risks and opportunities before installation.
- Develop detailed ESP installation programs, operating envelopes, startup procedures, and contingency plans.
Production Optimization
- Monitor ESP performance using surveillance and digital monitoring systems.
- Analyze production trends, intake/discharge pressures, current load, frequency changes, and well test data.
- Identify causes of reduced production, gas interference, scaling, solids production, overheating, or premature equipment failures.
- Recommend optimization actions to maximize production and extend run life.
- Support well interventions and ESP redesigns when operating conditions change.
Technical & Field Support
- Provide on-demand technical support during installation, commissioning, startup, troubleshooting, and pull/re-run operations.
- Work closely with Service Delivery, Field Specialists, Operations, and Customers to ensure successful execution.
- Participate in critical well reviews and support complex operational challenges.
- Compare predicted versus actual ESP performance and document lessons learned for continuous improvement.
Failure Analysis & Reliability Improvement
- Lead ESP failure investigations and root-cause analysis.
- Review teardown reports and equipment inspection findings.
- Develop reliability improvement plans to reduce deferred production and operating costs.
- Recommend equipment upgrades, design modifications, and best practices based on field performance.
- Contribute to reliability databases and knowledge-sharing initiatives.
Customer & Commercial Support
- Interface with customers to understand production objectives and well challenges.
- Support technical proposals, tenders, and customer presentations.
- Provide recommendations for ESP applications during field development and production enhancement projects.
- Assist sales teams with system selection, economic justification, and risk assessments.
- Communicate project risks and mitigation plans effectively to all stakeholders
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree in Petroleum Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related STEM discipline.
- Strong knowledge of Electrical Submersible Pump (ESP) systems and production engineering principles.
- Experience with ESP design and optimization software.
- Knowledge of variable speed drives (VSDs), downhole motors, protectors, gas separators, and surface controls.
- Understanding of well completion design, reservoir performance, and artificial lift optimization.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and presentation abilities.
- Ability to travel offshore and onshore as required.
- ESP design, commissioning, and optimization.
- Production surveillance and digital oilfield technologies.
- High-GOR, high-temperature, high-water-cut, and challenging ESP applications.
- Offshore and deepwater ESP operations.
- Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA).
- Production enhancement and well performance optimization.
- Customer-facing technical support experience.
