Job Description:
This contract Drafter role supports Engineering and Operations by producing, updating, and maintaining accurate technical drawings across pipeline and facility assets. This position requires strong experience working across multiple engineering disciplines within the oil and gas industry, with the ability to interpret field data and project inputs into compliant design documentation.
Specific Accountabilities:
- Develop, update, and maintain engineering drawings across mechanical, piping, electrical, and instrumentation disciplines
- Translate engineering concepts, project deliverables, and field redlines into accurate CAD drawings
- Review and incorporate site markups, photos, and as-built information into final deliverables
- Ensure all drawings comply with drafting standards (DS 001, DS 002, DS 003) and applicable industry practices
- Support preparation of Issued for Construction (IFC) and As-Built drawing packages
- Collaborate with engineers, project managers, field teams, and external service providers to ensure alignment
- Maintain drawing control, revision history, and documentation throughout the project lifecycle
- Support multi-project delivery in a fast-paced, high-volume environment
- Works across a broad range of drawing types supporting pipeline and facility projects
- Interfaces with internal teams and external contractors to deliver consistent, high-quality drawings
- Requires independent judgment to interpret incomplete or evolving input data and resolve drawing discrepancies
- Contributes directly to process safety information (PSI) accuracy and project execution quality
- Engineering Drawings team (daily coordination and delivery alignment)
- Engineering, Operations, and Maintenance teams (clarification of design intent and field conditions)
- Asset Information Management, PSI, and Engineering Records (standards compliance and data integrity)
- External EPCs, vendors, and drafting service providers (project execution and deliverables)
Required:
- Minimum 5+ years’ drafting experience in the oil and gas industry
- Demonstrated experience working across multiple engineering disciplines (mechanical, piping, electrical, instrumentation)
- Strong proficiency in AutoCAD (additional tools such as Revit considered an asset)
- Experience developing and updating P&IDs, plot plans, facility layouts, and equipment drawings
- Ability to interpret field redlines, site photos, and project documentation
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities
- Ability to work independently in a contract/remote or distributed team environment
- Experience working with drawings, standards, and systems (e.g., LPDMS)
- Familiarity with pipeline and facility operations
- Knowledge of instrumentation, control systems, and tagging conventions
