Field Specialist III - Directional Systems (DRS)

Job Title: Directional Driller
Location: Oman
Role Type: NES Contractor
Contract Duration: 6 Months (Renewable further as per the business need)
Work Rotation: 6 Weeks on / 3 Weeks off
Role Based : On/offshore

Job Summary:
The Directional Driller III is responsible for planning, executing, monitoring, and optimizing directional drilling operations to achieve well objectives safely, efficiently, and in accordance with Baker Hughes standards and customer requirements. The role requires advanced expertise in directional drilling applications, trajectory management, wellbore placement, drilling dynamics, and operational execution in complex drilling environments.
The incumbent will act as a technical lead on location, providing expertise to customers, mentoring junior directional drillers, and ensuring operational excellence through adherence to Baker Hughes processes, HSE standards, and performance expectations.
Key Responsibilities:

• Execute directional drilling programs in accordance with approved well plans and customer objectives.Perform real-time monitoring and optimization of well trajectories.
• Ensure accurate wellbore placement within target zones.
• Analyze drilling parameters and make recommendations to optimize rate of penetration (ROP), hole quality, and overall drilling efficiency.
• Perform survey management and quality control of directional data.
• Execute slide drilling, rotary steerable system (RSS) operations, and trajectory corrections as required.
• Collaborate closely with drilling engineers, geologists, MWD/LWD personnel, company representatives, and rig crews.
• Monitor drilling performance and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
• Ensure all operational activities comply with Baker Hughes technical procedures and customer requirements.
• Serve as the primary directional drilling technical representative at the wellsite.
• Troubleshoot complex drilling challenges including:
  • Anti-collision management
  • Torque and drag issues
  • Hole cleaning challenges
  • Wellbore instability
  • Directional control issues
  • BHA performance optimization
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to Directional Drillers I and II.
• Participate in pre-job planning, risk assessments, and post-job reviews.
• Develop and present technical reports and operational summaries.
• Maintain full compliance with Baker Hughes Health, Safety, Environment (HSE), and Quality Management Systems.
• Actively participate in safety meetings, hazard identification, and risk mitigation activities.
• Ensure all drilling operations are conducted safely and efficiently.
• Promote a strong safety culture and stop-work authority when required.
• Comply with customer-specific safety procedures and local regulatory requirements.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with customers.
• Provide professional technical support and recommendations during drilling operations.
• Communicate operational progress, challenges, and solutions effectively.
• Represent Baker Hughes professionally while maintaining high customer satisfaction levels.
• Prepare and maintain accurate:
  • Daily drilling reports
  • Survey reports
  • End-of-well reports
  • Operational summaries
  • Performance improvement recommendations
• Ensure proper documentation and data quality standards are maintained.

Essential Requirements of the Role

• Must have 7+ Years of Directional Drilling Experience with 3 Years of them as Directional Driller in Baker Hughes
• Must have Baker Hughes Direction Drilling Academy Accreditation
• Desirable Attributes
• RPS - Radiation Protection Supervisor certification is a plus
• Valid wellsite safety certifications is a plus

Education
